How do I identify myself?  Simple answer – I don’t

There are several words that people have used to describe me – lesbian, gender queer, butch, dyke, bitch to name a few.  But, that’s not WHO I am.  Not a single word can describe the entirety of me and I’m glad for it.

Everybody has descriptive qualities, but it is the SUM of those qualities that make you who you are.  It makes pieces and parts into a whole.  The whole of me and the whole of you. The only thing is, you are the only one who knows how those pieces and parts fall into place.  For me, it is organic in nature.  What I feel from one day to the next could be completely different.

I am completely unapologetic about me – and so should you.

What I’m feeling, so goes my dress. When I dress for work each day, I don’t look in the mirror and ask, “how will people take me if I wear this today?” but rather, “Wow, I look good in this!,” or maybe, “I’m going to change this shirt.”

The important thing about dressing for me can be summed up as:

  • Do I feel good in what I have on?
  • Do I look good in what I have on? and
  • Is it appropriate for the setting I’m wearing it to?

When I say  to be unapologetic about your uniqueness, there is a certain implication that your attire will be appropriate for the situation. For example, when I dress for work I would never wear basketball or gym shorts – that’s not the kind of work I do.  I’m not a P.E. coach.  But if you are, then I’m sure it is appropriate.

So, when I take all of my pieces and parts, and roll them around on the floor with how I like to dress – that’s my STYLE. And because you are uniquely you, so too will be YOUR style.
